About William Dale Johnson
On July 13, 1953 at 6lbs 8oz, our precious baby boy Dale was born. He was always such a happy boy and loved to be with his two older sisters - Sherry and Gloria. When he was in first grade at Halloween, they dressed him up as a girl and he won first prize When Marjorie and Darryl came along he was very good with them, giving them rides in his new wagon His first real pride and joy was his two wheel bicycle which he was always cleaning and washing.
Sports was a great thing with him. He played basketball in public school at Prince Charles. I think there is still a picture of him and his team in the hall. But of course hockey was his main sport. He really loved that game. He used to coach Darryl's team. He would get up early every Saturday and they would head off to Silverwoods He put his Dad's skates on Darryl and put him in net and they won every game. Dale was a good hockey player. He played in the Ice House and he scored three goals and they won because of him.
He was a boy cub and a boy scout which he enoyed because you had to earn your bades. He also took guitar lessons once a week for a couple of years, then he just kind of lost interest but he enjoyed it he said while it lasted.
When he went to high school he worked after school and weekends in the shoe department at Towers Department Store, which was on Wellington Road - where the old Zellers and Value Village is. After graduating high school they made him manager of the shoe department. He bought his first car, it was a '72 or '73 Gremlin and it was puple. He was so proud of that car.
Dale's sister Gloria got married in June of 1972 and he invited his sister Marjorie's friend Nellie to the wedding with him. The outcome was a beautiful love affair which lasted nearly 35 years. Dale and Nellie married on October 12, 1974 They had three beautiful daughters - Nicole, Erika and Katie, all of whom he though the world of. Nicole gave him twin grandsons - Ethan and Dylan. They were always his boys. Katie married Timothy and gave him a beautiful granddaughter - Madilyn, but sadly he never got to see her. He would have loved her to bits.
We were always so pround of Dale for the man he was and what he had accomplished He would gladly give a helping hand to anyone, family or friend to renovate a bathroom or put up a light fixture. He was such a loving and caring person.
These are only a few memories of our loving son that will be cherished along with the rest of our memories. He will be missed dearly. We will always keep and hold him in our hearts and mind and love him and never ever forget him.
A few memories of which there are many many more.
Love his Mom and Dad.
Dale lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 9, 2009 surrounded by many members of his family. Dale was the cherished husband and best friend to Nellie, loving father to Nicole, Erika and Katie (Tim), and much loved Papa to Ethan, Dyland and Baby Kooger. Treasured son of Bud and Shirley, son-in-law to Teresa Barte, brother and brother-in-law to Sherry (Bruce), Gloria (David), Marjorie (Michael), Darryl (Elaine), Anga (Len), and John.
